Message: de Rochemont & de Witt in Demerara ca 1790-1827
Charles DE ROCHEMONT, calvary officer from Holland in 1790's stationed in Demerara. Both Charles de Rochemont and wife Maria died there in 1798 leaving six children. Daughter Maria Louisa Susette de Rochemont married in Demerara in 1803 Carsten Cornelius DE WITT. From family papers, he was born 25 June 1780 in Guyana. I do not have his father's name, but family had come there from NY. Cornelius de Witt was a planter associated with Plantation Le Resouvenir. He died 1 Apr 1827 and was buried on the plantation. His wife Maria Louisa Susette (de Rochemont) de Witt died in 1828. Are there any resources prior to and after 1800 where I might find a record of Carsten Cornelius de Witt? Perhaps his father's name? Or where in NY they were from? Are there probate records from 1827 when Cornelius died? I know his estate was insolvent, and there was an auction. What can I do? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I will be happy to share additional information. Thank you. Debbie (DPW0912 / DeborahWilson0912)
