In 1911 Bud Whittington rented a train and took his entire family and belongings, including farm animals and equipment, to Reading, Kansas where he settled on a farm. His reason for immigrating was to live in a "dry" state. He was concerned about the hard drinking culture of Bath County, Kentucky and its potential effects on his sons.

Hi Darrell, 

               I know that I've told you before that I love your web site but I'll tell you again.  I am so impressed with all of the time and effort you put into family history.  You are amazing. On the Charles Whittington and Margaret Jones family, you have listed Pete Bailey as your source.  Can you tell me who he is and how to get a hold of him? I'd like to find out his sources on the marriages of the children in that family. Here are some corrections you need to make to that family.  There is no daughter named Lillie. You can delete that. You have two Thomas' listed. The correct one is Thomas Kenton.  He was born 10 Oct 1904 on Owingsville and died 19 July 1998 in Carmi, White, Illinois.  He married Margaret Thompson.  I don't have the date. The other Thomas married to Lillian is not ours. This next bit of information is sort of weird but I'll try to explain it.  The 3rd child in the family was a girl named Artie Mae.  She was born July 1892 in Owingsville. She died sometime before 1898.  In 1898 another girl was born who was named Rhoda, but because of the resemblance  to the then deceased Artie Mae, the family started to call her Artie Mae.  This 2nd Artie Mae is my husband's grandmother. I don't know if she ever legally changed her name but she went by this name the rest of her life.  Have you ever come across anything about the death of the first Artie Mae? Do you think that there are any death or cemetery records anywhere?
