He was an adventurous and colorful man who left his family for extended periods of time on various undertakings. The most memorable of these was an involvement in a Mexican mine which yielded some profit for him and other investors in the family. I remember seeing a considerable collection of turqouise at the home of his daughter, Julie Lord, undoubtedly a by-product of these Mexican trips. Because of this frequent absence, his brother James Westbrook played a large role in the family, and the children of the two Westbrook families remained close throughout their lives.
