World War II Draft Registration Card says he was 5'11", 162 lbs with blue eyes and brown hair and a light complexion. He was living in Silver Spring, MD and employed by the Bureau of Foreign and Domestic Commerce in Washington, DC.

"Body of Suicide Found in Basement Sausalito-The Body of Charles A.R. Wardwell, once director of business analysis for the U.S. Department of Commerce, was found yesterday in a basement storeroom of his apartment house. He was 69. The Marin County coroner's office said Wardwell apparently shot and killed himself on Tuesday. The coroner said he left two notes indicating despondency over ill health. Wardwell, a widower, is survived by a daughter, Alice Gerde Moore of Daly City." -Oakland Tribune 08 July 1969
