According to the Sallie DeWitt 1981 genealogy, Charles Henry Jr. was born on the Solomon Monrow Farm in Crawfordsville, Indiana. The 1870 census for 12 year old Charles in Franklin County Arkansas however, lists his place of birth as Missouri.
Charles was a farmer, a hunter and a trapper. He came to Arkansas with his parents when he was about 8 or 9 years old. He may have had a different mother than his other two siblings, because the 1880 census states that his mother was born in Virginia, when we believe that Mary Jan (Kaufman) DeWitt was born in Illinois.
