Facts and Events
Leslie Thrasher was a commercially successful artist-illustrator who is perhaps best known for the many illustrations that he produced for the covers of Liberty Magazine during the 1920s and 30s. As a student, he had studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, the Ecole de Grande Chaumiere in Paris, and then with Howard Pyle. He served during the First World War and suffered lung damage from a gas attack. His life and career were cut short as he died from pneumonia caused by smoke inhalation, when his summer house on Long Island caught fire. |
