- Halifax County, VA Court Records, 1825, June Court. [Note: this suit in Halifax County, VA names the children of this Charles Scott]:
- Reed & Others, Scott's Ex'ors, In Chancery. ***
- Thos. Read and Catherine Scott have departed this live since the commencement of this suit, and the defendant, Catherine Scott, hath intermarried with Samuel V. Watkins, and by consent the suit is renewed as to Catherine Scott, in the name of Nathaniel E. Venable, her Admr., it being admitted and agreed by the parties that her surviving brothers and sisters are her heirs.
- Samuel V. Watkins, by consent is made a party defdt. and he relying upon the Administrator that was filed by his wife, Louisa by her guardian, &c., &c., and it being also agreed that Maria Scott has arrived to the age of 21 years, whereupon the case coming on again to be heard upon the papers formerly, (several lines torn off) "allotted to them then 4 infant defendants, Maria, Elizabeth, Louisa & John, and which was directed to be held together for them, until the further order of the Court, so as to allot to the defendant and Watkins and wife one 1/4 part thereof, and to the defdt Maria 1/4 part thereof, and that the 2/4 of said property be kept together for the said defendants Elizabeth & John, till further order of this Court, and appearing to the court that the testator Chars. Scott is entitled to 10 shares of Roanoke stock, there being 8 surviving children doth adjudge, order and decree that one of those shares be allotted to the plaintiff Henry E. Scott. One to the plaintiff Nathaniel Venable and wife. One to the plaintiff Harriett A. Read. One to the defendant William A. Carrington and wife. One to the defendant Samuel V. Watkins & Wife. One to the defendant Maria Scott. One to the infant defendants John & Elizabeth each, and that the Commissioners do convey to the said parties by deed a title to said shares, each, and as to the other two shares cannot be divided in kind, and the Commissioners shall advertize the same for one month at Halifax Court House, and shall sell them to the highest bidder, and divide proceeds equally between above named, &c., $c.
