Charles Alvin “C.A.” Samples passed away April 16, 2011 at Linda Vista Care Center in Ashland, Oregon. He was born September 24, 1922 in Mangum, Oklahoma to Charles and Margaret (Davenport) Samples. When he was young, the family moved to Weed, California where C.A. graduated from high school and soon after, joined the Navy. He served his country proudly in World War II and the Korean War. C.A. spent the majority of his work-life in law enforcement which included Weed Police Department, Yreka Police Department, and ending his career as a Siskiyou County Deputy Sheriff/Coroner – resident deputy in Scott Valley until his retirement in 1983. He then moved to Medford, Oregon. In 1984, he married Aylene Faber Mills. Together they enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting and spending time with family and friends. He had a great sense of humor and loved to tell really good stories. He never met a stranger and was loved and admired by all who met him. Survivors include his wife of 26 years, Aylene; sons, Richard of Sacramento, and David of Medford, Oregon; stepchildren, Linda (Rolly) Renfro of Gold Hill, Oregon, Sharon (Miles) Stewart of Central Point, Oregon, Ron (Jeannette) Faber of Eagle Point, Oregon, Shirley (Steve) Sharp of Springfield Oregon: 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; 1 great, great-grandson; and many other family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Juanita (Samples) Rhoads. The family thanks Rogue Valley Medical Center staff for their care over the last few years and special thanks to Linda Vista Care Center staff who provided wonderful care and support during this difficult time. A memorial service will be held on June 3 at 11 a.m. at Eagle Point Veteran’s Cemetery, followed by a reception at the home of Linda and Rolly Renfro in Gold Hill, Oregon. In lieu of flowers, donations be made to the charity of your choice.
