My dad Charles Richard Rugh was a brilliant man with a great sense of humor and a demon on his back. Random facts about Dick Rugh: He financed his college education by hustling poker, chess and bridge. His friends (especially his female ones) called him "Big Dick". He served in the Army. At one time he worked for the US intelligence community (CIA, mom says) reading through newspapers and magazines -- think Robert Redford's job in Three Days of the Condor. He was a printer in Jefferson City. He had issues with alcohol. After I was about two years old I never saw him again. Neither did his mother. According to Social Security records he lived until about 1976. What he did for those 16 years is a mystery to us all. Part of what drove me to study my family genealogy is the idea that maybe somewhere in the San Francisco Bay area I have half-siblings.
