On the marriage records (1873) at St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Erie, Pennsylvania, he is listed as Karl Ruch. On Eva RUCH's baptismal certificate and the birth records (1873) at St. Paul's UCC for both Eva and Caroline, Charles RUCH's name is Carl RUCH. On the birth records (1874) at St. Paul's UCC, he is listed as Karl Ruch.

The family legend for cause of death is a broken neck from falling down the stairs. Based on the death certificate, it is likely that he did fall down the stairs which caused the spinal problem (also possibly in the area of the neck).
