Biography
Charles Rice was not the son of Thomas Rice and Ann Marcy Hewes. He was born in November 1715, 4 years after the death of Thomas Rice in about 1711. He was the son of Edward Rice and Mary Claiborne, and therefore the grandson of Thomas Rice.[1]
In 1735, in St. James Parish, Henrico County, Charles Rice married Mary Holman, b: about 1720, in Goochland, Virginia. The couple lived in Goochland, Virginia and had the following children:[2]

Charles Rice was named as executor in will of father Edward Rice, dated 1 May 1769. This establishes that Edward, not Thomas, Rice was his father.[4] Charles Rice died in November 1785 and his will was proven on November 22, 1785.

The Will mentions his wife Mary and names several of his children: William, Holman, Basdel [sic=Basil], Lucy, Charles, Tandy, Molly Rice... The Will further states:
".........that I desire may be sold and equally divided amongst my thirteen children..."
This Will establishes that Charles and Mary had at least 13 children if 13 were still alive at his 1785 death. Charles Rice was buried at the St. James Baptist Church Cemetery, Goochland, Virginia, USA. [7] His wife Mary (Holman) Rice survived his passing and was named in his Will. She died in 1789 and was buried next to her husband in the St. James Cemetery. [8]
