Page 100: Liber 11, Page 502.-- In the name of God, Amen. I, Charles Peters, of Hempstead, in Queens County, "being this 17 February 1730/31, very sick, and being willing to set my house in order." I leave to my wife Mary, the dwelling house at all my garden in Hempstead. To my eldest son Charles, 50 pounds, when of age. To my son Valentine, 50 pounds. To my daughter Mary, 50 pounds. To my son John, 50 pounds. To my son Edward, 50 pounds. To my daughter Ann, 50 pounds, and to my daughter Charity, 50 pounds. I leave to my wife the use of all estate till the children are of age. Mem., "through the forgetfulness of the Clerk, my son George is left out of the above writing. I therefore leave him 50 pounds." Witnesses, Peter Titus, Samuel Willis, William Willis. Proved, April 3, 1733.

Entire Will is found on pages 149-150 of the book "A Peters Lineage, Five Generations of the Descendants of Dr. Charles Peters of Hempstead" compiled by Martha Bockee Flint, Poughkeepsie, New York, 1896. Found at http://longislandgenealogy.com/Peters.pdf Page 1: Our own family was planted in America by Dr. Charles Peters. There are but few traces of his life here, and no evidence exists fixing his English home or parentage.

Scattered but authentic mention of him is found in official documents. The first occurrence of his name discovered, is in the census of New York for 1703, entered as follows: "Dr. Peters: Family, 1 male, 1 female, 1 female child."

He married Mary Hewlett, with known issue reaching adult life, of five sons and three daughters. His son, Valentine Hewlett, was born in Perth Amboy, New Jersey, August 18, 1716; but careful search of the Proprietors' Records finds no trace of Dr. Peter's residence there. He was living in Hempstead, Long Island, February 2, 1720. His will is dated Hempstead, February 17, 1731, and was probated at New York April 3, 1733.
