  • McMannes, Charles, born 1762 in York County, Pennsylvania; soldier & family driven by Indians 9/17876 from their home on frontier settlement of western Pennsylvania, & took shelter at Ligonier Garrison, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania; entered service there in 1780 with brother James in Virginia regiment; received Pension 1832 in Brown County, Ohio, resided in Jackson Township; brother James resided there then; query letter in file states soldier married Ellen, moved abt. 1815 to Brown County, Ohio & died near Winchester, Ohio, & their son Joseph born 1796 in Pennsylvania; query letter in file states soldier was buried in Cherry Fork, (Adams County), Ohio. FS2807, R1696.
