    The last Will and Testament of Charles McLean (excerpts)

    I Charles McLean of the town of Stamford, county of Delaware and state of New York being in a poor state of health but of sound mind and memory...
    I devise and bequeath....in the following manner...

    First I give and bequeath unto my beloved wife Jane McLean a certain particular share of my Real and personal estate as will be herein after specified.
    Item 2d. I give and bequeath unto my eldest son Archibald the sum of thirty dollars according to a certain proviso to be herein after mentioned.
    Item 3d. I give & bequeath to my four sons Alexander McLean. Hector McLean. John McLean & Charles McLean - All my estate both real & personal of every name or nature whatsoever to have and to hold the same to them & their heirs, executors, administrators & assigns forever...
    Item 4th. I give and bequeath to my eldest daughter Jane Ann McLean two hundred & fifty dollars to be paid in yearly enstallments...
    Item 5th. This my will and bequeath that my youngest daughter Mary so long as she remains single shall have her home and support with her four brothers Alexander Hector John & Charles...
    And lastly I do hereby appoint my beloved wife Jane McLean my executrix & my friend David More Executor of this my last Will & Testament hereby revoking all former wills by me made. In witness whereof I have set my hand and seal this 16th day March in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred & thirty nine.

    The above Testament consisting of one sheet was now here subscribed by Charles McLean the Testator, in the presence of each of us & was at the time declared by him to be his last Will & Testament & we at his request sign our names here, as attesting witnesses.

  3.   Charles McLEAN was a son of Archibald McLean and bought a farm at the head of the Town Brook valley in 1810, where he resided until the time of his death, which was on the tenth day of July, 1839, at the age of 54 years.
