Information on Charles McClain

Charles Mc Clain I, can be found in the tax list of Rockingham, Virginia in 1784's list of Benja'n Harrison. He resided there until about 1793 when he moved to Augusta then to Bracken County, Kentucky. In 1802 he moved across the Ohio River to Clermount County, Ohio and in 1817 moved to Dearborn County, Indiana. According to the 1820 Census of Ripley County Indiana) he is located in Ripley County, Indiana. In 1830 he is listed again in the census of Ripley County, Indiana and in two deeds of that year. Charles must have been 70 -80 years of age in the 1830 census and probably died within a few years as he is not in the 1840 or 1850 census of Indiana.

Charles possibly married a first time in 1775 to Eliza Harrison in Augusta County, Virginia, There is a marriage recorded for Charles McClain and Eliza Harrison but there is no proof that this Charles and our Charles are one and the same person. This is just an assumtion. Children of Charles are Ann, John, Elizabeth possible children are Sarah, Susanna and William. Which children goes with which wife is not known at this time.
