Will Transcript
- In the Name of God Amen. This twenty fifth day of December one thousand eight hundred and thirty. I Charles Lewis of Patrick County State of Virginia being very sick and weak of body but of perfect mind and memory thanks be to God, therefore Calling unto mind the Mortality of my body do make and ordain this my last will and Testament in the following manner:
- as touching such worldly estate wherewith it hath pleased God to bless me with in this life I give devise and dispose of the same in the following manner and form.
- First of all it is my will that all my just debts should be paid out of my estate.
- Second. I give to John Foster all my Land lying between Bodh Spring and my upper crop fence with a straight line to the top of the ridge
- Also I give unto Thomas Ogle all my land Beginning at the ford of the Creek at the said Ogles Mill thence east to Wm Clouds? line, thence with sd. line south to the Creek, thence with the said Creek east meander up to the begining.
- Also I give to my son Archibald a parcel of my Land bounded as follows; beginning near Boyds Spring runing west to the top of the ridge by Halls branch, thence with the County line to a black walnut tree standing near the grave yard, thence a strait line to the ford of the Creek at Ogles Mill, thence east with Ogles line to his corner, thence Neitherly opposite to Boyds spring, thence west to the begining ~
- Also, I give to my son William a parcel of land bounded as follows; Begining on the ridge near Halls branch at Archibald's corner in the County line, thence southwest to the back line & Archibald's line.
- The ballance of my land I give unto my three sons, Fielding, Charles and Warner to be equally divided between them.
- Also, I give to my daughter Jane a Negro Girl named Ruth.
- Also, I give to my son Archibald a Negro boy named Samuel by his paying Levi Johnson one hundred dollars in trade to be applied to the support of his family to be paid in the installments yearly.
- Also, I give to my son Archibald my Negro women Criss? by his taking care and supporting his sister Nancy while she lives.
- Also, I give my daughter Milly a Negro Girl named Sally.
- Also, I give my Mill to my two sons William and Archibald.
- Also It is my will if any the Owners of the within named negroes in my will should die without heirs the negro or Negroes should be equally divided between the rest of my children except Fielding and Warren and Levi Johnson.
- Also, It is my will that all my personal property to be sold to pay my debts.
- Also, I constitute make and appoint my two sons Charles and Archibald my executors to this my last Will and Testament, and I do hereby revoke and disannul all former Testaments and wills by me in any ways made ratifying and confirming this and no other to be my last will and Testament.
