While serving as head of the Okanogan Investment Co. in the 1890's he surveyed the town of Leavenworth, Wash. when the Great Northern railroad built through to Everett, Wash. in 1892, and it carries his name.

The namesake of the more-famous Leavenworth, Kansas is his second-cousin once-removed, Gen. Henry Leavenworth.
