Sys. Charles Huntoon Knight (22 November 1849 - 29 April 1913) surgeon. Born in Easthampton, Massachusetts, Charles was the son of Horatio Gates and Mary Ann (Huntoon) Knight. After completing his early education at Williston Seminary, Knight attended Williams College and graduated in 1871. The following fall, he began his study of medicine at Columbia University and received his M.D. degree four years later. Knight interned for a year and a half at Roosevelt Hospital before traveling abroad for further study in 1876. Returning to the United States, he was in charge of New York Hospital for six months. Knight began private practice in 1877, specializing in nose, ear, and throat. He lectured on diseases of the nose and throat and was professor of laryngology at the New York Post-Graduate Medical School for six years beginning in 1892. In 1898 Knight was professor of diseases of the throat and nose at the Cornell Medical School. In addition to these activities, he authored A Yearbook of Surgery for 1883 and Deseases of the Nose, Throat, and Ear in 1903, contributed to publications of various medical societies, invented several surgical instruments, and was a member of such medical associations as the New York Academy of Medicine, American Academy of Medicine, Therapeutic Society, and the American Medical Association. On 28 June 1893, Knight married Mrs. Lucy Ellen (Tolford) MacKenzie. He died in New York City at the age of sixty-three. Williston Seminary, Easthampton, Mass.
