Biography

Little is known of Charles "Charley" Johnson. A few passages in Lon Norick's autobiography, the record of his marriage to Amanda (Wilson) Norick and the 1900 Census are the only pieces of information known about him at this time. From Lon Norick's autobiography:

"As I remember it mother had three or four boarders, one of them was a blacksmith by the name of Johnson who had a good job working in a shop nearby. He was a former citizen of Denmark and a very fine gentleman and after some months' courtship he and mother were married, and soon after he secured a position in McAlester, woking his trade, where he and mother moved, together with the three youngest children-Bessie, Walter and Henry." [3]

A few pages on in the autobiography he is mentioned again:

Mother, Johnson and the three youngest children were still living in McAlester, but in the fall of 1903, Johnson disappeared and was never heard of again. We tried in vain to locate him but could get no trace of him. During the following spring mother moved back to Hartshorne. After this she was never mentioned as Mrs. Johnson. Since all her children were Noricks, she went by that name until her death." [4]

Prior to his marriage to Amanda, he was living in Chandler City, Lincoln, Oklahoma Territory. He is found in the 1900 census. As Lon had described in his biography, he was a blacksmith from Denmark. [5]
