[edit] Research Notes[edit] BirthThere is no known contemporary birth record for Amanda Wilson. In the words from Amanda from an affadavit dated 21 June 1897, she stated "The births of all may father Henry Wilson's children were all recorded in an family Bible. But in our moving around the Bible has been lost or destroyed and I am unable to find the same,,- I was born on the 27th day of April 1852, and my father died in 1865. My last birthday, was, April 27 1897. - The midwife who waited on my mother is now dead." [6] In Amanda's own words, her stated date of birth is 27 April 1852. On 23 July 1904, Amanda gave another affadavit. From this affadavit she reveals the location of her birth: "If there ever was a church or an public record of my birth, I never knew of it. Fathers family record was misplaced, I do not know of when and where. The last I knew of it, it was at Mothers, but after her death the property was sold at an administrators sale and I have not heard of it since. The only one I ever knew who was present at my birth is dead. I was borne in Campbell County Tenn. and father left there when I was a small child and I do not know of the attending physician or anyone who was present." [7] The first of the two previous mentioned affadavits were signed by Amanda with a mark ( X ) instead of a signature. Amanda signed the latter document with her signature. Most of the available census records (1860, 1870, 1880, 1900, 1910 and 1920) that Amanda is found in agree with her statements. Her parents were in Campbell County, Tennessee in 1850 [8] and 1860 and her birth location is almost always listed as Tennessee. The only exception being the 1880 census which lists her birthpace as Indiana. [edit] Suggestions for Further ResearchAmanda's parents Henry and Elizabeth were members of the Powell River Baptist Church when they lived in Campbell County, Tennessee.[9] The records of this church may hold some information in regards to Amanda's birth or baptism.
