    Charles, known as Charlie, was the second son and third child of Henry and Frances Humphrey. He was born in Hailsham on 8th May, 1862, and named after his mother's brother Charles Delves, and his own father.

    Charlie was taken to Waikato Hospital in Hamilton from Marshall Street with a bad heart condition and he died there on 2nd July 1945. He was buried on 14th July in Hamilton East cemetery.

    Henry Humphrey and Frances, together with their ten children, all their household belongings, personal clothes and some silver 'treasures' from Comphurst Farmhouse, embarked on the ship Waimea at Gravesend dock London on 1st July 1876. The Family had reported to the 'emigrants depot' three days before, where they stayed until the ship was ready to leave. On 2nd July they sailed for New Zealand and a new life.
