At age 18, Charles and his cousin George, age 16, came to America and Ontario from England in 1870. Charles was an active member of the Immanual Congregational Church, in Ontario, New York. Charles was one of the first trustees when the church changed from a Methodist to a Congregational Church. In the Ontario, NY directory of 1914, Charles and Emma are listed as farmers, and owned 21 acres. Obit in the Herald Mail; Fairport, NY; Aug 18, 1927 Ontario, Aug. 15?Charles Harris, a well known and highly respected citizen of Ontario, passed away Sunday afternoon at his home on Mill street. Death was due to cancer and Mr. Harris had been a patient sufferer for several months. . He was about 75 years of age and has been for many years identified,with the Beach & Maher company, at first as an employee and later as a member of the firm. Mr. Harris has been a very active member of the Congregational church, a man loved by his neighbors and honored by his associates. He is survived by one son, Dr. Rowe Harris, of Rochester, and a daughter, Mrs. Raymond Lamb, of Toledo, Ohio, also five grandchildren, two brothers, James, of Ontario, and John, of Fairport, Mrs. James Eaton, Mrs. John Dunn, Mrs. Clarence Mepham, of Ontario. Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the home and at 3 o'clock at the Congregational church, Rev. E. W. Hargrave officiating. Interment at Furnaceville.
