FUNERAL RITES HELD LAST WEEK FOR CHAS. J. HAMMERBACK, TEIEN Chas. J. Hammerback, the oldest of the few remaining pioneers in the Eagle Point Community, died at 3:30 o'clock Monday, January 27, at the home of his son Edward in Alvarado. He was 90 years and 4 months old. Chas. J. Hammerback was born in Dalarne, Sweden September 27, 1850. He came here from Sweden in 1883 with his wife and three children. He farmed in Eagle Point constantly until 1930, moving in that year to Alvarado to spend his remaining days at the home of his son. He was preceded in death by his wife in 1930. Surviving him are six children; Mrs. Annie Danielson of Minneapolis, Mrs. Lottie Bjoraa of Lancaster, Mrs. Enoch Stavig of Baudette, Mrs. Gust Edlund of Hallock, Mrs. Ole Westerlund of St. Peter, and Edward Hammerback of Alvarado. There are 17 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. One brother, Mr. Gust Hammerback of Sebastian, Texas and a sister, Mrs. Chas. Fredrickson of Drayton, also survive. Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 1st, at 2 P.M. from the Teien Mission Church with Rev. A. H. mars officiating. The obituary sermon will be spoken in Swedish. Musical selections will be sung by the Teien Mission Choir and John Westman, soloist. Pallbearers are Gust Johnson, August Johnson, Lars Grundstrom, Eric Peteron, Carl Dahl and Hjalmer Fredrickson. - Kennedy Star. (1941) Family emigrated into Chicago in about 1880.
