Owned a string of Chrysler dealerships from Bath to New Hampshire at one point. Become a State Senator. Gambled at the race track.

My father, his nephew, descibed him as not paying attention to the market changes after WWII (distracted by horse races). Took on extra cars when Chrysler requested, sold them at a loss, then didn't have anyone to sell new cars to in the coming year.

Charles prided himself on his ability to "disobey all traffic laws and talk the police out of a ticket," even after his wife was injured in a car accident. Wife was in mental institutions periodically, according to my father.

After he lost the dealerships, became a used car salesman for another car dealer, later returned to teaching in Bryant Pond, Maine. Died of perhaps stomach cancer (as did his mother).
