Charles Caffey May 11, 1945 - Aug 12, 2014 Funeral service for Charles Ray Caffey, 69 of Rockdale is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. Sunday, August 17, 2014 at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home with burial to follow in the Salty Cemetery. Pastor Kevin Boaz of Zion Church of Kurten will officiate with eulogy by Miller Bassler. Visitation is 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Saturday, August 16th, at Phillips & Luckey. Charles Ray Caffey, was born May 11, 1945 in Taylor, Texas, the oldest of four children born to Charles Cleo and Alta Raye (Jackson) Caffey. He was raised in the Thorndale area and was a 1963 graduate of Thorndale High School. He graduated from Southwest Texas College in San Marcos where he played football and track. Charles was inducted into the “T Association” Hall of Honor in 2004. On January 22, 1966 Charles married his “Sweetheart” Neva Jack Havel in Lake Jackson, Texas. After their marriage, Charles worked as a teacher and coach. Charles, Neva, and their two sons moved to Rockdale in 1976 where he was self-employed in real estate and construction. Charles loved hunting, fishing and sports of all kinds. He was an amateur archaeologist/paleontologist, a scout, tracker, cook, mechanic, farmer, rancher, and pilot. His greatest accomplishment was being a loving husband, father, and Gdad. “Sweetheart”, as Neva and most of the nurses and aides called him, stepped into eternity Tuesday evening, August 12th in the Renaissance Villa in Rockdale after a lengthy fight with Alzheimer’s. He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Cleo “Buck” Caffey and his father-in-law, Jack Havel. Surviving is his wife of 48 years, Neva Jack Caffey of Rockdale; Their two sons, Charles Derek Caffey and wife April of Rockdale, Kevin Ray Caffey and wife Stacie of Bryan; His mother, Alta Raye Caffey of Rockdale; Mother-in-law, Margaret Geneva Havel of Rockdale; Brother, Edward Caffey and wife Debbie of San Marcos; Two sisters, Linda Biar and husband Jerry of Thorndale and Debbie Leschber and husband Raymond of Thorndale; Six grandchildren, Colton, Austin, Brandi, Jackson, Slaton and Vivian.Pallbearers will be, Derek Caffey, Colton Caffey, Austin Caffey, Kevin Caffey, Jerry Biar, Alan Johnson, Miller Bassler, Mac Sauls, David Morrison, Raymond Leschber.Honorary pallbearers, Jackson Ray Caffey and Slaton Caffey.
