I did find Sarah E. Bennett who died in 1935. She is buried in the same block but a different location, Lot 290 Space one. I only have years of birth and death, 1867-1935 and Stine McClure was also the funeral home.
Charles Bennet is interred here in Mount Moriah Cemetery, Block 10, Lot 256, Space 3. He has an individual granite memorial headstone. The funeral home the family used was Stine McClure. You can get a map from the office when you come to visit. If you need additional information please call me at 816-942-2004.

- ↑ Probably the one member of both families that stands out most in my memory is Grandad Bennett. Perhaps that is because he outlived all of his own generation -- I guess he is the only one of my Grandparents whom my wife, Betty, ever met. But that isn't the only reason I remember him. I am probably over-working the word "character," but it is the perfect word to describe Grandad Bennett. From things that Byie has told me, as well as other stories I have heard, Grandad apparently wasn't the most ambitious of souls. He was a happy-go-lucky sort of person who knew and loved everyone and was always ready to stop whatever he was doing (ESPECIALLY if it was manual labor) and pass the time of day. I was never sure of what jobs Grandad had had -- I know that he tried farming, and I have heard of his adventures with door-to-door selling. Someone once told me that he really didn't care he made a sale or not -- he just enjoyed visiting with the people! When I was a little boy he was a house painter. That was long before the days of latex, water-based paint. Paint in those days was practically made by hand, with the painter mixing in turpentine and various coloring ingredients and doing a lot of vigorous shaking and stirring. I remember the shed behind Grandad's house being a great place to play, what with all the ladders to climb on and the buckets of paint and turpentine to dabble in. As I say, Grandad wasn't overly ambitious and the quicker he could get through a job and get it over with, the better. I remember many years later when Daddy was remodeling a house in Kansas City that was owned by the college. (This was after we had moved to Marshall). He hired Grandad to do some painting. I was also helping Daddy. Daddy almost had a heart attack as he watched Grandad sling his paint brush around, throwing paint over everything, slopping it over the trim, and generally making a terrible mess of everything. I can't remember exactly what happened, but I believe that Daddy made some excuse to excuse Granddad from the job and he and I cleaned up the mess and did it all over.
Yes, Grandad had his failings, but the love that he had for EVERYONE -- especially for his family -- made up for everything. And if ANYBODY ever made it to Heaven, Grandad is there today. How he did love his Lord, and his church! I could try to be funny here, and I apologize for what might be sarcasm, but we sometimes wondered which Grandad loved the most -- his Lord or his church. Grandad was of the firm belief (and now I'm going to exaggerate -- but not much!) that heaven will be populated ONLY by Baptists. Anyone who would attend any other church but Baptist was destined for the other place. I say that in jest, and deep in my heart I don't believe it to be entirely true, but everyone in the family, including his children, laughed behind his back about Grandad's "hard shell" attitude towards his Baptist faith. I wonder if he will be amazed when his Presbyterian, Methodist, Nazarene, and -- yes -- even Catholic friends show up in Heaven!
- ↑ Grandma's given name was Elizabeth, although the only names I ever heard her called were "Liz" or "Lizzie." She was a very large lady (I'm trying to be kind here -- I hate the word "fat"!). I was the first grandchild (I think Betty Bennett, Uncle Forrest's and Aunt Katherine's oldest child, was born about five years later). I guess Grandma Bennett would have spoiled me rotten if Byie had let her. I can still remember Grandma scooping me up and enveloping me in those huge arms and bosom, nearly smothering me. She was a fabulous cook -- I will never forget those pies and cakes! And she didn't take any back talk from Grandad. She treated him like the little boy he really was at heart. Years later (here I go -- getting into the thirties again!) Byie and Daddy and I would come to Grandad's from Marshall and spend weekends with them. Grandad and I would sleep together in the back bedroom (Oh, how I loved that!) and would talk and giggle until Grandma would call out from the other bedroom, "You two kids be quiet in there!". Somewhere or sometime I have been told that Grandad and Grandma were married as teenagers, and that Grandad and his brother married Grandma and her sister in a double wedding. This is one of those "colorful" stories that I can't substantiate, but, knowing them, I wouldn't doubt it!
