DEATH: Charles F Balch,Jr. related this story of his father's death to his daughter Catherine. After working on Christmas Day 1946, he went to pick up his father, who lived in a room over a liqour store to bring him for dinner. He was told that his father had been found dead with a pillow over his face that morning, apparently smothered. The police asked if Charles Sr had any enemies and were told that none were known. There was no further investigation. Occupation: 1946 Certificate of Death lists occupation as "Porter". Oral info from Mary Elizabeth Dick-Balch indicates that Charles, Sr. was a dishwasher at a Decco Restaurtant where she worked as a waitress. BURIAL: Death Certificate lists burial at Concordia Cemetery. In 2000 Catherine Balch-Edwards spoke on the phone with the caretaker who mentioned that the gravesite was not marked but was 'in the back'. A few years later when Catherine & Dennis visited Concordia Cem. the caretaker was not available.
