Rev. Althoff Dies In Detroit, The Fremont News Messenger, 26 June1944, pag e1 column 7: Service For Venerable Lutheran Minister To Be Wednesday. The Rev. Carl H. Althoff, 94, pastor of Emmanul Lutheran Church at Hessvil le for 35 years, and pastor of Trinity Lutheran church in Elmore for ni ne years, died a 11 p, m. Saturday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Hen ry Glick, in Detroit MI. Surviving members of the family are five daughters, Mrs. Frank Myers, Hele na; Mrs. Harmon Harr, Elmore; Mrs. Urban Minick, Gibsonburg; Mrs. F. D. Ef finger and Mrs. Glick, both of Detroit; three sons, Lewis Althoff, Fremon t; Rev C. G. Althoff, Rodgers City MI and Luther Althoff of Flin t MI. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 1:30 p. m. at the home of Mr s. Frank Myers, Helena. and 2 p. m., at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Hessvi lle. Rev. Wm Weigman, Rev. A. R. Lemke, Rev. A. W. Lynn, and Rev. Lil je will officiate. Burial will be from the Sabroske & Myers funeral ho me in Elmore, and will be in Gibsonburg North cemetery. The body wi ll be at the home of Mrs. Myers in Helena, after 9 a. m. Tuesday. Additional: Rev. Althoff had served as the president of the Evangelical Lutheran Joi nt Synod of OH and other states, chairman of the Board of The Ladies' A id Society and a member of the Board of Directors of Woodville Normal Scho ol. He retired from the active ministry in 1928 and resided with fami ly in Fremont, Helena and Detroit MI before his death in 1944. At the time of his death, he was the oldest living alumnus of Capital Univ ersity. President Yochum of the MI District of the American Luther an Church conducted the alter service. Other pastors took part in the serv ice in MI as well as the service held the next day at the Hessvil le Parish. References
