She was the daughter of P.A. and Amy Elizabeth (Thorpe) Phillips. She graduated suma cum laude from Ashland College and taught school for four years before she married.
From 1965 to 1975, she taught language arts in the English department at Ashland High School. After teaching, she was employed as a teller at the First National Bank on Cleveland Avenue for several years until she retired. She was a member of Christ United Methodist Church.
On Dec. 25, 1946, she married Walter L. Crumrine, who preceded her in death on March 2, 2005.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Sharen C. and Andrew D. Leonard, and her grandson, Michael D. Leonard, all of Arlington, Mass.; her sister, Christine Kirk of Greenville,S.C.; her sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Vivian and Gerald Kiplinger, and her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Wilbur and Dorothy Crumrine, all of Ashland.
