Cecil W. Pug Hindman, 84, died Sunday, May 15, 2005, at an Abilene medical center.
He was the son of Martha A. (Simmons) and Floyd C. Hindman, born on June 23, 1920 in Fort Worth, Texas. During World War II, he served his country in the United States Army in Company B 507th Parachute Infantry in battles and campaigns in Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland, and Central Europe. He was a prisoner of war for 82 days. He escaped while being transported to a different location. His decorations and citations included the American Theater Campaign Medal, EAME (European-African-Middle East) Campaign Medal with 5 Bronze Stars and Bronze Arrowhead, Good Conduct Medal, Purple Heart GO 51 HQ 505 Parachute August 19, 1945, Distinguished Unit Badge WD GO 26 June 11, 1944, and Victory Ribbon.
Mr. Hindman worked in the freight industry as a truck driver. He had been a resident of Abilene for 25 years. He married Hazel E. Webb on September 11, 1976, in Dallas, Texas. He enjoyed fishing and camping.
He was a member of the VFW Post 2012, Disabled American Veterans (DAV), and Ex-POW's.
He was predeceased by his parents, and a sister, Ina Jewel Lilly.
Survivors include his wife of Abilene; a daughter and husband of Cedar Hill, Texas; a grandson of North Carolina; and a great-grandson. He is also survived by sisters-in-law of Abilene, Hot Springs Village, Arkansas, and Odessa and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 2:30PM Saturday at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home Chapel of Faith, 5701 Highway 277 South, with Rev. David Cason officiating. It was Pug's wishes to be cremated. Entombment of his cremains will be in Elmwood Memorial Park."
