Facts and Events
[edit] Notes on Catherine MorrisA woman of character and determination, much admired and very popular with young people. Once decided to attend a social function on the north side of the Kanawha River, but found no boat on her side, so taking the clothes she wished to wear, placed them in a sugar trough, and pushing it ahead of her, swam to the other side, and attended the party. She was very casual about it, and said she had done the same thing several times. Married Charles Venable in 1800, and lived on the south side of the Kanawha opposite Charleston where Venable Branch enters the river. She left no children.
