Data shows Catherine's maiden name as BOUCH. This researcher thinks her surname might be RAUSCH, as there are many of that surname in the area she lived, and in the former home (Tuscarawas County, Ohio) of many of her relatives. No Bouch surnames have been found there, but Rausch is common. If anyone reading this page has additional information, it would be appreciated.

Catharine's husband died in circa 1864, leaving Catherine with minor children to raise. The Rice family is not found in the 1850 & 1860 Federal Census, but they have been found in the 1870 & 1880 Census. In 1870, Catharine was age 42, Elizabeth was 18, Jacob was 10, George was 8, and Kate was 5. In 1880, all were 10 years older, but were now living in Chester Township.
