A note on the spelling:
The name first showed in America as Hoffarth. The name mutated to Hoffart, Hoffard, Hofferd, Hoffert, Huffert, Hufferd, Huffard, Huffart, and so forth. In the life of one man, he might have spelled his name three or four different ways. He might have spelled it one way, someone writting his name might have spelled it another. The name shows differently in the same document sometimes. One sibling might spell it one way, the one who lived on the neighboring farm might spell it another.
