Carl A. Seabolt, 76, of Springfield, died at 6:40 a.m. on Sunday, September 11, 2016 at Memorial Medical Center.

He was born December 7, 1939 in Springfield, the son of Charles Everett and Jennie Thirlwall Seabolt. He married Arlene Louise Camit in 1961 in Chicago; she preceded him in death in March, 2010. He was also preceded in death by his son, Carl Roy Seabolt in 2013.

Carl served as a Deputy Sheriff with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, a Police Officer with the West Covina California Police Department, a Special Agent with the Illinois Bureau of Investigation, and retired from the Illinois State Police as a Lieutenant. He was Charter Pipe Major for the Illinois State Police Pipes and Drums and served as Secretary and Vice-President of the ISP Command Officers Association. A graduate of Mt. San Antonio College in California and Governor's State University in Illinois, he served as President of the South Holland District 151 School Board in the late 1970s. He also instructed Law Enforcement classes part-time at Joliet Junior College and Thornton Community College in South Holland. He was a member of St. Paul's Masonic Lodge #500.

A U.S. Marine Corps veteran, he served with the Fleet Marine Force as a Military Policeman at Camp Pendleton, CA. He was Past Commandant of the Collier-Harrison Detachment of the Marine Corps League; Charter Member of the Marine Corps Heritage Foundation, Quantico, VA; and served with and was Interim Commander of the Interveterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County.

He is survived by his daughters, Janet (husband, Jay) Goetsch of Rochester and Sharon Thaxton of Sherman; four grandchildren, Amanda Thaxton, Emily (husband, Emmanuel) Cannon, James Thaxton and Andrew Goetsch; a great-grandson, Emmanuel Jay Cannon; a step-great-granddaughter, Veronica Cannon; a niece, Linda (husband, Tom) Drewenski; and his beloved dog, Nyah.

Visitation: Family will receive friends from 10:00 – 11:15 a.m. on Thursday, September 15, 2016 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield.

Funeral Ceremony: 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, September 15, 2016 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home with Rev. Dr. Delbert Penrod, officiating.

Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery with military honors provided by the Interveterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County.
