MRS. KUMMER GRANIS BURIED Resident of Douglas County for 50 years – Funeral in Waterville Today

Waterville, July 9 [1935]– The funeral services of Mrs. Karoline Kummer Granis were held from the Federated church in Waterville, today. Rev. S. Lentz of the German Lutheran church officiating. Mrs. Granis died at her home here Sunday evening after a lingering illness.

She was born in Germany April 8, 1856 and was married to Ernest Kummer Sept. 2 1873. In 1882 with her family, she came to LaSalle county, Illinois. In 1885 they moved to Douglas county Washington and took up a homestead 2 ½ miles east of Waterville which she still owns. Mr. Kummer died May 29, 1921. A few years later Mrs. Kummer married C. A. Granis who preceded her in death Nov 25, 1932.

Mrs. Granis has made several trips to Germany to visit relatives and friends and for many years has made her home in Waterville, still retaining her interest in farming. In early childhood she embraced the faith of the German Lutheran church an has been a member ever since.

She is survived by her children Karl Kummer of Deer Park, Ernest Kummer of Seattle, Mrs. Louise Norris of Payette, Idaho, Mrs. Alfreda Fletcher, Mrs. Ida Close and Henry Kummer of Waterville. 21 grand children and two great grandchildren. Interment was in the Waterville Fraternity cemetery.
