    Upon David's death, Caroline, who was pregnant with their third child, went to live with her sister, Catharine (Mauck) McNeal in Henderson Township, Knox County. They built her a log cabin near their home. Caroline did house work and took in washing to support her family. Caroline spent the last years of her life with her youngest son, Eli, on a farm in Henderson Township. Carolines's funeral was from the United Bretheran Church, Henderson, Illinois and she was buried at the Fuller Cemetery, Knox County.
