CAROLINE JEMIMA (Huffman), wife of Lemuel C. Miller of Catawba County, N.C., was born March 22, 1849, and died October 31, 1902; aged 53 years, 7 months, and 9 days.
She was confirmed a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church July 6, 1861, by the late Rev. P.C. Henkel, D.D. She lived a faithful and consistent member of St. Stephen's congregation, in which her husband served as an elder several years, admonishing and trying to correct the wayward. Her son, David L., is at this time the efficient treasurer of the congregation, and he and his sister Mary are teachers in the Sunday-school.
She and Mr. Miller were married March 16, 1870. To them were born 8 children, 3 sons, and 5 daughters, and 7 grandchildren. 1 son, 2 daughters, and 1 grandchild died before she did.
Mrs. Miller was the daughter of Nelson and Rhoda Huffman. Her father is dead, but her aged mother attended her burial. She leaves 2 sisters and 3 brothers, 1 of the brothers living in a western state.
Her body was conveyed to St. Stephen's church on Sunday after her death, and, at the regular hour for service, the pastor preached from Rev. 7:9.10. The congregation was unusually large, because many had come to pay respect to the memory of a good woman, and to sympathize with the bereaved family. May God comfort them as he alone can.
