- We find Caroline's birth place listed in the 1900 Fed Census under L. Grace's "mother's birthplace" (Illinois). The 1870 Fed Census for Galina, Ill has Caroline as 9 years old and living with her family while going to school with her sister Louisa who was three years younger. Cecily Lang's work has birth place as Hampton, Iowa. Hampton is very close to Galina, so who knows. Caroline's date of death was taken from the probate report that bestowed guardianship for their (Carrie & Jesse Beal) two children. The two children inherited one half of the value of the property their mother had held, that she got from her father John. Property was located at 611 11th Ave S. Fort Dodge, Iowa. When visited in 1994, site was found to be part of a golf course. As of 1994, unable to find marriage cert, death cert. in Fort Dodge. Obituary (Fort Dodge Messenger 9/19/1889: (see file) lists her having died of erysipelas result from a bad cold ten days earlier. She was only 29. She was well liked, popular, and a "good musician."
