GREENSBORO — Mr. Carl Cecil Bates, 82, of Greensboro, died Tuesday, August 7, 2007, at Moses Cone Hospital.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, August 10, at Lambeth-Troxler Funeral Chapel with Reverend Jeff Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Guilford Memorial Park.

Mr. Bates was born June 12, 1925, in Guilford County, to the late Walker Harrison and Dovie Isley Bates. Carl attended Edgefield Baptist Church and was employed by Lorillard for 31 years. He was an avid hunter and fisher, a loving husband, father and grandfather. He will be dearly missed.

Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Helen Bowman Bates; a son, Stephen Gary Bates; three grandchildren, Shelly Lynn Bates, Adam David Bates, Ashley Diane Bates; three sisters, Mozelle Auman and husband, Nolan, Dorothy McGrady and husband, Albert, Myrtle Willis; and a brother, W.H. Bates, Jr. and wife, Eva.

The family will receive friends from 7 until 9 p.m. Thursday evening at Lambeth-Troxler Funeral Home.
