Facts and Events
Calvin Johnson enlisted about the 15th of May, 1775, in Capt. Solomon Wills' Company, of Tolland, Ct., Col. Spencer's Reg., and was stationed at Roxbury and Brookline during the wiege of Boston; service seven months. He enlisted for six months in 6th Com., 3d Conn. Battalion, June 1776, repaired to New York, stationed on Governor's Island, and was the last man to leave it when the British landed upon it after the Battle of Brooklyn; was at the Battle of White Plains, and afterward stationed near West Point. He enlisted Dec., 1776, for three months, in 2d Com., 2d Conn. Battalion, and was stationed at Rye, N.Y., and was discharged March 25, 1777. In August of the same year he was drafted for three months, and served under Capt. David Johnson; was first at Fishkill, then at Esopus with the forces stationed there to prevent the British army from going to the relief of Burgoyne, who was then at Saratoga; was again stationed at Fishkill, where he was discharged. In June, 1779, he was again drafted for three months, and was stationed at New London, Conn. His whole service in the revolutionary war was one year and ten months. He moved to Norwich, Vt., where his father, an original proprietor, gave him a hundred acres of land, March 29, 1780, on which he continued to reside. References
