Calvert Lewis Estill of Martinsburg, WV, died Monday, February 16, 2009 at City Hospital.
He was born in Memphis, TN, to Calvert Lewis Estill, Sr., and Robbie Lee Bennett Estill in March of 1924. He grew up in Charleston, WV, attended West Virginia University and graduated from the US Military Academy in 1945.
He served in the occupation of Japan, the conflict in Korea, and followed by serving in the Strategic Air Command. He was a pilot.
Upon leaving the military he returned to Charleston and became active in the real estate industry. He was a broker and a Certified General Appraiser licensed in six states.
He enjoyed traveling, climbing mountains, and time with his friends and family. He was a prolific writer having numerous pieces published – short stories and poetry. Calvert and June lived in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, for six years where he spent his time writing poetry, short stories and musical comedies.
They came to Martinsburg in 1994 and opened a real estate office. He was an honorable and loving man to all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife, June Parker Estill; his daughter, Elizabeth Estill Stultz and her husband Gardner of Charleston, WV; two sons, John Richard Estill and Cindy Kahler of Carrboro, NC; and James Calvert Estill and his wife Nancy of Shoreline, WA; and 13 grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Monday, March 30, 2009, at the Holiday Inn in Martinsburg, WV. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Berkeley Senior Services, 217 N.
