Mrs. Calista Witter, widow of Josiah Witter, deceased Nov., 1872, died at her residence in Grand Rapids, on Monday, June 8th, aged 67 years. Her maiden name was Calista Langworthy. She was born at Bridgewater, N. Y., Nov. 21st, 1807, and was married to Josiah Witter, at Brookfield, N. Y., Feb. 28th, 1828. The wave of emigration sweeping westward in 1850, found the twain among the thousands emigrating at that period, and they settled at Dakota, Waushara Co., Wis., whence they moved to our city in October, 1872. Mr. Josiah Witter died quite suddenly at or near Wautoma two years since, since which time Mrs. W. has resided with her children who have loved and cared for her with the most assiduous attention.
Those who knew her best were drawn toward her by an uncommon impulse; she was truly Christian in the grandest meaning of that term. She with her husband were members of the Seventh-day Baptist Church, known as Sabbatarians, a faith that embraces some of the grandest and purest Christians in the church of Christ. Through much suffering and tribulation she has walked through the dark valley, but she feared no evil; the rod and staff of her Father comforted her. She was truly a mother in Israel, and we look upon her now in the blessed home whither she has gone as no longer aged, but as one young, clothed upon with a new life, and joyous in the society of the "blessed" forever. Her remains were interred in the new cemetery grounds, after a brief service by Rev. R. M. Webster at her residence. - Grand Rapids (Wis.) paper.
