CALEB WHITE. A son of Thomas White and Rachel Jordan, was born 1740-3-8 in Perquimans Co.,N.C., and died 1795-2-26, with his will being proven in May Court, 1795 in Perquimans Co.. He was md. 1761-1-14 to Rebeckah Toms, b. 1743-8-1 and died 1806-3-2. She was a daughter of Francis III and Rebecca (Nixon) Toms. (See Appendix II for the Toms family information.) In April of 1756, Caleb sold 31 1/2 acres of land which was "part of a survey taken up by said Caleb, year 1755" (History of Perquimans Co.,N.C., Deed Book F, page 198). He also purchased 150 acres on the south side of Cypress Creek from Henry Lamb in July 1760, and another 100 acres on the west side of Perquimans River from Moses and Benjamin Wilson in July of 1772. Both Caleb and his wife were very active in the Society of Friends, both serving as elders for a number of years. His name is noted as witness of executor or a dovoder of an estate on a number of Perquimans County wills. In Nov. of 1778, a petition was forwarded to Co. Thos. Harvey relative to Joseph Newby, and also for army exemption for a number of Quakers, including Caleb himself. On the same date, Caleb White, Thomas Knox, and Thomas Newby were appointed to deliver a petition to the Governor.

Birth dates (but not places) are given for Caleb and his siblings. They were taken from a reconstruction "from reliable sources" of Piney Woods Monthly Meeting (Quaker) records destroyed in a fire in 1851. From context, the information was probably provided by a descendant of Caleb's sister Rachel (White) Winslow. Proof that these dates use old-style dating is in the birth date of Mary: 2nd month, 29th day (1735) could not be February, so must be April.
