1930 federal census: age 5 Obituary from Middletown Times-Herald, February 23, 2001 BURTON E. IRWIN Middletown, N.Y. Burton E. Irwin of Middletown, a retired superintendant and life long resident of the area died Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2001 at Middletown Park Manor, Middletown. He was 76. The son of Ezra and Harriet Ann Marie Tucker Irwin, he was born on Aug. 8, 1924, in Middletown. Burton was the Chief Mechanic for his namesake - Burt Jr.'s 156 Sportsman. He was well known by the dirt track racing community as "Daddy-O". After retiring from his job in Brooklyn, Burton returned to live in Bloomingburg where he repaired small engines in his shed for many years. He was a member of the Tri-State Country Music Association and played lead guitar in local country bands as well as for the enjoyment of his family. His devotion to racing and music has been passed on to his children and grandchildren. Survivors include his wife, Jane Hamilton Irwin; five children, Burton Irwin, Jr. of Middletown, Bruce Irwin of Arizona, Sandra Ryan of Rock Tavern, Georgianna LaPlant of Port Jervis and John Irwin of Middletown; his step-sons, James DeFazio and William DeFazio, both of Bloomingburg; his sisters, Ella Morse of Bloomingburg, Mabel Zuchnick of Middletown, Mary Winner of Middletown and Frances Irwin of Howells, twenty grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Visitation will be from 1 to 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 24, 2001 at Ralston-Lippincott-Hasbrouck-Ingrassia Funeral Home, Inc., 72 West Main St., Middletown. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 24, at the funeral home. Rev. Betty Beach will officiate. Burial will be in Bloomingburg Cemtery, Bloomingburg at the convenience of the family. Arrangements by Ralston-Lippincott-Hasbrouck-Ingrassia Funeral Home, Middletown. References
