Will of Bryant Flanagan, Russell County, KY 1837

I Bryant Flanagan of the county of Russell and the state of Kentucky being infirm in Body but of sound and disposing (?) memory calling to mind the mortality of the body knowing that it is appointed for all men once to dye do make and ordain this my last will and testament in manner following (towit) 1st I give and bequest to my wife Mildred Flanagan all my estate both real and personal to use as she may think best for the benefit of the children yet underaged provided she continues to be my widow if she should marry before my youngest son becomes of age my will and desire is that all my property be sold at twelve months credit and the proceeds put out to interest until the younger son come to the years of maturity then to be equally divided among all my children in the following manner viz after my sons Daniel, Mason, Wesley, Davis, Bennet, Ira, and my Daughter Elizabeth Flanagan receive one hundred dollars each beside their board and schooling; whatever may yet remain of my estate it is my will and desire may be equally divided among all my children but should my wife continue a widow until my younger son comes to the age of twenty one my will and desire is that she shall have one third of what remains at that time to use as she may think proper for her own benefit during her life after her Death what ever may remain of my property my will and desire is it be divided among all my children. I appoint my trusty friend to see that this my last will be duly executed according to its true meaning in testimony hereof I have set my hand this 26th day March in the year of Our Lord 1836 Witness Bryant Flanagin Hugh French, Sr.(?) Notice that the eldest "son," Rev. John Flanagan, is not enumerated in this will as among, "all my children." DNA results performed upon the descendants of Rev. John Flanagan does not match the DNA results of the descendants of those enumerated in this will as, "all my children." The DNA of Rev. John Flanagan's descendants matches many who bear the surname, "French" instead.

   Information on sons is from Bryant's will with the exception of John Flanagan. The last is from info on a printout I have on a printout, the origins of which I'm unsure - I've tried to find it in Broderbund's WFT CDs without success. The information on John Flanagan (1815-1869) comes from the aforementioned printout which lists him as the son of Bryant and Milly.
