Brian was a sophomore at St Michael's College when he died. He was walking home from a party when a friend, Janis Ryan, fell off of the Colchester Ave bridge into the Winooski River. Brian dove from the other side of the bridge in an attempt to save her. Ms. Ryan was rescued from an island down-stream by the Fire Department. Brian's body was never recovered.
