Bradly J. "Candyman" Huffer, 71, Forest, died at 2:36 p.m. April 23, 2006, in Howard Regional Health Systems, Kokomo.
Mr. Huffer graduated from Forest High School in 1953 and retired from Chrysler Corp. in May 1987 after 30 years. He was a member of Union Baptist Church for 30 years and a former member of Forest Baptist Church, serving both as Sunday school superintendent and trustee; UAW Local 685 and Forest Spinners Club. He and his wife square danced 25 years as members of Swing Squares, Cabot Promenaders and Delco Promenaders. He also had coached AAU girls basketball. He was proud of having earned his journeyman's card and of the girls he coached because most of them went on to college.
He loved traveling, playing games and cards such as euchre and pony tail. He and his son plowed snow and gardens for a lot of neighbors for many years.
He was born Dec. 27, 1934, near Forest to Joseph J. and Helen L. Laughner Huffer. He married Peggy L. Craft-Turner on Nov. 16, 1957, and she survives.
Also surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Michael (Penny Leann) Williams of Raleigh, N.C.; a son, Brett Matthew (Mary) of Farmville, Va.; two sisters, Bonnie Cardwell of Advance and Carol Schwarzkopf of Cutler; and four grandchildren, Misty Michelle and Holly Leann Williams and Brittney Laine and Kyle Matthew Huffer.
Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday in Stout & Son Funeral Home, Russiaville, with the Rev. Jerald Turner and the Rev. Dale Brittian officiating. Burial will be in Hopewell Cemetery near Michigantown. Calling will be 3-5 and 6-8 p.m. Friday.
Memorials may be made to Union Baptist Church Youth Group with envelopes at the funeral home.
