    • Bontje's mother died when she was 7 years old. Her father Halbe left Friesland to live in Germany for a number of years. During this time, Bontje lived with the Lacrooy (Lacrooij) family, and was separated from her siblings.
    • A relative of the Lacrooy (Lacrooij) family, Johannes Marcus Belgraver, was a good friend. He sent her many postcards of his trekking travels to various countries.
