GATES - Blanche Syverson, 91, died Friday at a hospital in Stayton (Marion Co.).
Born in Gates, she had lived in the Mill City-Gates area all her life. She worked for Stewart Grocery in Mill City for many years. She belonged to the Santiam Rebekah Lodge No. 166, Mill City, and she enjoyed crocheting and embroidery. Her husband, Arnold, died in 1976. Survivors include her sons, Delmar and Raymond, both of Mill City, and Rodney of Elgin; daughter, Betty Hattendorf of Lebanon; brother, Wallace Bevier of Salem; sisters Geneive Gray of Klamath Falls and Hazel Devine of Stayton; 15 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and five great-great grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Weddle mortuary, Stayton.
[note: Gates is a tiny place about 3 miles from Mill City but on the Marion Co. side of the Santiam River. Elgin is in Wallowa Co. in the northeast corner of Oregon.]
