Note on name in 1880 US Census: In the 1880 US Census for Leander Richardson, there is a female child called Ella B Richardson, born about 1879. It is likely that this is Blanch, based on the date of birth, as well as the fact that Emily states having had 12 children in the 1900 census. If “Ella B” is in fact a different individual, this would mean Emily had 13 children, which she did not state. Further, in later documents, Blanch is seen as using “E” as her middle initial. Based on these facts, it is likely that Blanch started out as Ella Blanch Richardson, and at some point between 1880 and 1900 swapped names, instead going as Blanch Ella.
